Weibliche Agency in der Rhetorik von Katharina Schütz Zell und Martin Luther

Der vorliegende Artikel wendet eine mikrohistorische Analyse der Interaktion zwischen Katharina Schütz Zell und Martin Luther in den 1520er Jahren an, um das Handlungspotenzial von Frauen im Kontext der protestantischen Reformation zu untersuchen. Schütz Zell, eine fromme Laienfrau aus Straßburg, stellte sich entschieden gegen die geltenden sozialen und kirchlichen Normen, indem sie öffentlich für die Ehe des Klerus eintrat und ihre eigene Verbindung mit dem Pfarrer Matthias Zell verteidigte. Es wird angenommen, dass Schütz Zell theologische und rhetorische Legitimationsstrategien nutzte, um ihre öffentlichen Handlungen zu untermauern, wobei sie ihre Position auf göttliche Gnade und biblische Präzedenzfälle stützte. Zugleich unterstützte Luther ihre Arbeit mit großem Enthusiasmus, obwohl ihre theoretischen Schriften die Geschlechterhierarchie aufrechterhielten.
Der scheinbare Widerspruch zwischen den normativen Prinzipien der Theologie und den pastoralen Praktiken des 16. Jahrhunderts verdeutlicht die Komplexität weiblicher Handlungsspielräume innerhalb des soziokulturellen Umfelds jener Zeit. Wie die Forschungsergebnisse zeigen, gehört Schütz Zell zu einer breiteren Tradition von Frauen, die zwischen dem 14. und 16. Jahrhundert ihr Recht auf öffentliche Rede im Namen des christlichen Glaubens geltend machten. Zusammenfassend lässt sich festhalten, dass Schütz Zell, obwohl sie von ihren Zeitgenossen als Anomalie betrachtet wurde, eine bedeutende Vermittlerin in der Geschichte weiblicher Agency während der religiösen Umbrüche Europas darstellt.
