The importance of the baptism to Christian life according to Romans 6.1-11

This article presents a brief analysis of the traditions from the Old Testament and from the Intertestamental period that gave rise to Christian baptism and presents exegetical observations from Romans 6.1-11, where the apostle Paul uses precisely the figure of baptism in his argument about the possibility of a new way of life marked by the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The article emphasizes the present and continuous identification of the baptized with the work performed in a unique and sufficient way in the past, on the cross, and with the ultimate judgment, as eschatological events. Finally, this article also points out some brief considerations about the Pauline understanding of baptism.
