Publication of Texts
Invited Articles, Dossier, Various Theological and Interdisciplinary Topics
The author(s) must submit the texts to be considered for submission, with a minimum of ten (10) and a maximum of twenty (20) pages, including: (i) abstract and keywords in the vernacular language and in a foreign language (in English for articles in Portuguese, in Portuguese for articles in English, and in English and Portuguese for articles in other languages), title, subtitle, if any, introduction, development, results and/or conclusions, and references. If necessary, tables, images, and similar materials may be included, provided that their source is specified, always within the body of the text. If texts longer than 20 pages are submitted, the Editorial Board reserves the right to assess whether or not it is appropriate to make room for publication, according to the criteria presented above.
Essays
The author(s) must submit the texts to be considered for submission, with a minimum of fifteen (15) and a maximum of forty (40) pages, including: (i) abstract and keywords in the vernacular language and in a foreign language (in English for articles in Portuguese, in Portuguese for articles in English, and in English and Portuguese for articles in other languages), title, subtitle, if any, introduction, development, results and/or conclusions, and references. If necessary, tables, images, and similar materials may be included, provided that their source is specified, always within the body of the text. If texts longer than 40 pages are submitted, the Editorial Board reserves the right to assess whether or not it is appropriate to make room for publication, according to the criteria presented above.
Book Reviews
The author must submit the text to be considered for submission, with a minimum of one (1) page and a maximum of four (4) pages, including: (i) the bibliographic reference of the work according to ABNT standards, as described on the Vox Scripturae website (revistas.flt.edu.br/voxscripturae/about/author-guidelines), which will also serve as the title of the publication; and (ii) a descriptive and critical text about the reviewed work. If necessary, tables, images, and similar materials may be included, provided that their source is specified, always within the body of the text. If texts longer than four (4) pages are submitted, the Editorial Board reserves the right to assess whether or not it is appropriate to make room for publication, according to the criteria presented above. It should be noted that the journal accepts book reviews of works whose publication date does not exceed five (5) years prior to the date of submission.
Languages of the Texts
Texts may be written in Portuguese, Spanish, German, or English and must employ clear and fluent language and comply with the current orthographic rules in the author’s country of origin. Texts submitted in English, German, and Spanish will only be published if, after acceptance, they undergo specialized language revision at the author’s expense. For this purpose, the author will have 30 days and must submit a revision statement together with the revised text. Simultaneous publication in two languages is permitted, subject to approval by the Editorial Board.
Authorship
Number of authors. Articles and essays should preferably have one author, though up to three authors are allowed. Book reviews, however, must be written by a single author. The publication of collective texts prepared by committees in the context of national and international events is permitted, provided that it is authorized by the institution or entity responsible for the text and approved by the Editorial Board. The submission of texts by women is especially encouraged, with a view to promoting equity.
Authors accepted for submission. Articles by doctors, masters, and stricto sensu graduate students are accepted. Undergraduate students and graduates may participate as primary or secondary authors, provided that at least one of the authors meets the requirements mentioned above. Book reviews by doctors, masters, and stricto sensu graduate students are accepted.
Required author information All authors must provide their full name, affiliation, email, ORCiD record and, for Brazilian authors or those working in Brazil, their Lattes record.
Integration of Authors into the Reviewer Board. Doctors who publish in Vox Scripturae will, after their first publication, be automatically integrated into the journal’s reviewer board and may be called upon as needed.
The mere submission of an original contribution implies the author’s authorization for its publication. The content contained in the articles is entirely the responsibility of the author(s). At the time of submission, it is mandatory to attach the cover letter provided by Vox Scripturae, duly digitally signed and with valid authentication (available for download).
Research Ethics
The content of the texts is primarily the responsibility of the authors. They must document their investigations and comply with research ethics requirements. Authors are requested, where necessary, to submit documents concerning ethical procedures in the investigation together with their texts. In the case of studies involving experiments with human beings or animals, these must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki (1964) and Resolution 466/12 of the National Health Council (CNS). Such studies involving risk of harm must include a statement that the experiment was carried out with the free and informed consent of the human participant, as well as with a favorable opinion from the Ethics Committee that approved the experiments. In situations involving experiments with animals, authors must provide the opinion of the Ethics Committee on the Use of Animals (CEUA), as well as certify that all necessary procedures were carried out in order to avoid animal suffering throughout the experiment(s).
On Evaluation, Originality of Texts, Similarities, Plagiarism, and Retraction
Evaluation of Articles and Essays
Articles, whether for the dossier or various topics, as well as book reviews submitted for publication, must all be original and unpublished. If redundancies, similarities, or plagiarism are detected, a retraction must be made, to be published together with the electronic version, and the original text will be marked with a watermark indicating “retraction.”
Under the coordination of the Editor-in-Chief, all articles submitted undergo an initial pre-evaluation (desk review), which verifies whether the texts comply with the journal’s scope and standards. Then, if approved in the pre-evaluation, they are subject to review by at least two reviewers, experts, members of the Scientific Committee, or other ad hoc advisors, drawn from among the institution’s faculty with master’s degrees, doctoral candidates, and doctors, or from outside the institution, who will prepare a review while maintaining the anonymity of authors and reviewers in this process. Final opinions and the decision on whether or not to publish the contributions are reserved to the Editor-in-Chief together with the Editorial Board. A list of reviewers is presented in the last publication of each year. Additional information about reviewers may be found in the Reviewer Guidelines (revistas.flt.edu.br/voxscripturae/about/reviewer-guidelines).
If there are differences in evaluation or opinion among the consulted reviewers, that is, when the text receives both total acceptance and total rejection, the respective article will be sent to a third reviewer for consideration. The deadline for this review will be one (1) month.
Authors will be informed of the results of peer review and of the decisions regarding whether or not their submitted texts will be published.
Evaluation Criteria
The criteria for evaluating articles and texts are as follows, taking into account the other formal requirements set forth in these Guidelines: 1) Relevance to the field of theology in the context of contemporary discussions, as well as to Vox Scripturae; 2) Consistency of content and theoretical-scientific and conceptual rigor; 3) Articulation between objective, theoretical-methodological foundation, analysis, and obtained results; 4) Comprehensibility, language and style, language correctness, and compliance with technical standards – ABNT (NBR 6023/2025, NBR 10520/2023, NBR 6022/2018, NBR 6024/2012, NBR 6028/2021, NBR 6029/2023 and NBR 14724/2024); 5) Quantity, quality, relevance, and currency of the bibliography used; 6) Originality and contribution to the field and subfields that constitute the focus of Vox Scripturae; 7) General impression.
Evaluation of Book Reviews
Book reviews, after pre-evaluation (desk review), will be evaluated directly by the Book Review Editor, who, together with the members of the Scientific Committee, will decide on the publication of the text (without the double-blind peer review process).
Authors will be informed of the results of peer review and of the decisions regarding whether or not their submitted texts will be published.
Evaluation Deadlines and Revisions
The evaluation period is up to two (2) months, and reviewers must issue a report on the evaluated text containing observations on the positive and negative aspects of the work, points to be revised, and a final recommendation: 1) Accept (full acceptance), 2) Minor Revision (conditional acceptance), 3) Major Revision (conditional acceptance), 4) Revise and Resubmit (conditional rejection), and 5) Reject (total rejection). In the case of a favorable opinion conditioned upon revision, the points to be revised, removed, or added will be clearly stated in the report, as well as any further suggestions deemed appropriate for a sound publication. Authors will have 30 (thirty) calendar days for a Minor Revision and 90 (ninety) calendar days for a Major Revision; if necessary, the author(s) may request an extension of up to 180 (one hundred and eighty) calendar days. The Editorial Board coordinates this exchange of information between authors and reviewers, maintaining the confidentiality of both parties’ identities, and is responsible for the final decision on publication, based on the reviewers’ recommendation. When not accepted, texts are returned to the authors with justification. When accepted, they are forwarded for revision, typesetting, and publication.
Appeal of the Editorial Decision
In the event of an appeal, an email with the subject line “Appeal + Submission ID + Article Title” may be sent to voxscripturae@flt.edu.br. Vox Scripturae reserves the right not to review the decision in cases where rejection resulted from a breach of journal policy or when reject was the consensus among the reviewers.
Publication of Accepted Manuscripts
It is at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief, together with the Editorial Board, to choose the volume in which the accepted text will be published, provided that the period does not extend beyond 180 (one hundred and eighty) days after the full acceptance of the article or the acceptance of the revised article.
