Christianities, Politics, and Democracy – Analyses of the relations between theology and public life

In different historical and social contexts, Christian theologies have sought to reflect on the relationship between faith and public life, its ethical implications, and its relations with political institutions. In a contemporary scenario marked by debates on democracy, political polarization, religious nationalisms, and the role of churches in society, it becomes increasingly necessary to deepen academic investigation into the multiple interfaces between theology, society, and politics.
With this objective, the journal Vox Scripturae invites researchers to submit articles for a dossier dedicated to examining the relations between Christian faith, churches, and public life, with special attention to the Brazilian context, without excluding comparative analyses or reflections of broader scope.
Contributions situated in two main lines of investigation will be welcome: on the one hand, works of an epistemological and conceptual nature, aimed at reflecting on the theological and theoretical foundations of the relationship between Christian faith, politics, and democracy, including discussions on public theology, political ethics, pluralism, religious nationalism, and political polarization; on the other hand, works of a historical and empirical nature, which investigate the concrete presence of churches and religious discourse in the public sphere, especially in Brazil, addressing themes such as political-religious mobilization, the relationship between churches and public policies, the formation of the Christian political imaginary, and analyses of recent electoral processes, including the 2026 elections. The dossier seeks to bring together contributions that broaden the academic debate and offer critical perspectives on the role of theology and Christian traditions in public life.
