Este artigo examina, em perspectiva histórica e documental, a formação da tradição batista inglesa (c. 1580–1646/47). Reconstrói-se o enquadramento jurídico-eclesiástico do separatismo (Atos de Supremacia e de Uniformidade, categoria de recusants), descrevendo atores e textos fundamentais (Browne, Barrowe, Smyth e Helwys). O corpus principal inclui a Declaração de Fé (1611) e a Primeira Confissão de Londres (1644/1646), analisadas artigo a artigo, além de um estudo integral de Uma breve declaração do mistério da iniquidade (1612). A etapa final compara as confissões batistas com a Confissão de Fé de Westminster (1646/1647) e a Confissão de Dordrecht (1632). Metodologicamente, combinam-se crítica externa e interna dos documentos, colação de edições e variantes, história intelectual (Cambridge) e comparação sinótica. Os resultados destacam: (i) a definição de fronteiras internas (Batistas Gerais × Particulares, com ênfase no alcance da expiação); (ii) a configuração eclesiológica congregacional (igreja de crentes, pacto, disciplina, ordenanças) e seus desdobramentos públicos; e (iii) a contribuição das fontes batistas iniciais para a história da liberdade de consciência e das relações Igreja–Estado. O artigo oferece, por fim, aparato técnico (tradução anotada de trechos nucleares, referências e indicações de fontes) que viabiliza novas análises documentais.
