Doctrina, historia y contexto del origen bautista en Inglaterra

Este artículo examina, desde una perspectiva histórica y documental, la formación de la tradición bautista inglesa (c. 1580–1646/47). Se reconstruye el marco jurídico-eclesiástico del separatismo (Actas de Supremacía y de Uniformidad, categoría de recusants), describiendo actores y textos fundamentales (Browne, Barrowe, Smyth y Helwys). El corpus principal incluye la Declaración de Fe (1611) y la Primera Confesión de Londres (1644/1646), analizadas artículo por artículo, además de un estudio integral de Una breve declaración del misterio de la iniquidad (1612). La etapa final compara las confesiones bautistas con la Confesión de Fe de Westminster (1646/1647) y la Confesión de Dordrecht (1632). Metodológicamente, se combinan la crítica externa e interna de los documentos, la colación de ediciones y variantes, la historia intelectual (Escuela de Cambridge) y la comparación sinóptica. Los resultados destacan: (i) la definición de fronteras internas (Bautistas Generales × Particulares, con énfasis en el alcance de la expiación); (ii) la configuración eclesiológica congregacional (iglesia de creyentes, pacto, disciplina, ordenanzas) y sus implicaciones públicas; y (iii) la contribución de las fuentes bautistas iniciales a la historia de la libertad de conciencia y de las relaciones Iglesia-Estado. El artículo ofrece, por último, un aparato técnico (traducción anotada de fragmentos nucleares, referencias e indicaciones de fuentes) que viabiliza nuevos análisis documentales.
